Stay in control
Responsible gambling
Low-deposit casinos can feel harmless because the entry is $1 or £5. They aren't risk-free. This page sets out the legal age in each market we cover, the self-exclusion and limit tools available to you, the warning signs of a problem, and real helpline numbers you can call today.

Legal gambling age by market
The legal age for online casino play differs by market — and within Canada, by province. Never gamble below the legal age where you live.
| Market | Online casino age | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 🇬🇧 United Kingdom | 18+ | 18 for all gambling. |
| 🇳🇿 New Zealand | 18+ | 18 for licensed online casino and TAB betting. Note: land-based casinos are 20+ — don't conflate the two. |
| 🇨🇦 Canada — Ontario, BC, AB | 19+ | Most provinces are 19+, including AGCO-regulated Ontario. |
| 🇨🇦 Canada — AB, MB, QC | 18+ | Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec are 18+. Always check your own province. |
Self-exclusion and account limits
Every regulated casino we list offers tools to help you stay in control. Use them before you need them.
🇬🇧 United Kingdom
- GAMSTOP — the national self-exclusion scheme. Register once to block yourself from every UKGC-licensed operator for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. All UK casinos must be signed up.
- Deposit limits — set daily/weekly/monthly caps; strengthened deposit-limit duties land 30 June 2026.
- Gamban blocking software, GamCare support, and BeGambleAware.
🇨🇦 Canada (Ontario)
- ConnexOntario — free, confidential support 24/7 on 1-866-531-2600.
- AGCO/iGaming Ontario operators must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and must verify age (19+) and residency before withdrawal.
- Outside Ontario, offshore operators vary — check what tools they provide before depositing.
🇳🇿 New Zealand
- Gambling Helpline NZ — 0800 654 655, free and 24/7, plus text and web chat.
- Under the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is introducing harm-prevention requirements as licensed operators come online from 2027.
- Many offshore sites offer self-exclusion and deposit limits — use them.
Everywhere
- Set a budget before you deposit and treat it as the cost of entertainment, not an investment.
- Use deposit, loss and session-time limits — most casinos let you set them in the account settings.
- Never chase losses, and never gamble to make money or to escape stress.
Why a small deposit is not "safe by default"
The whole pitch of this niche is the tiny entry point, and that low barrier can encourage frequent re-deposits. A $1 deposit chased twenty times is a $20 loss; the punishing wagering on free-spin winnings can also nudge players into depositing more to "unlock" a win. Treat the deposit floor as a starting figure, not a ceiling, and watch your cumulative spend rather than any single deposit.
Warning signs of a gambling problem
- Spending more time or money than you intended, or repeatedly trying to win back losses.
- Borrowing money, selling things, or neglecting bills to gamble.
- Hiding your gambling, or lying about how much you play.
- Feeling restless, anxious or irritable when you try to cut down.
- Gambling to escape problems or relieve low mood.
If any of these sound familiar, reach out to one of the services above. Help is free, confidential and effective — and the earlier you ask, the easier it is.
Our commitment
We will never imply that gambling is a way to make money, never downplay wagering requirements, and never promote an offshore operator to UK players. Every page on this site carries 18+/19+ messaging and links to support. If our content ever falls short of that, tell us via the about page.
